Multisensory Experiences- Week 6

VR Experience Reviews

Pearl VR

I thought Pearl was really beautiful. It used the lighting to help with story telling- the warmer tones felt more nostalgic. The cooler tones were in times of worry or thought. When the dad sees the house with the family inside, the house has a beautiful warm yellow glow, while you can feel the cold of the car from the lighting on him. At the end, when Pearl is famous and they are driving through the Paparazzi, the camera flashes also briefly cast warm lights onto them from inside the dark car.

Gloomy Eyes

This experience was really delightful- despite the fact that the right lens of the headset I was using kept malfunctioning so I might have to do it again. It used the 3D-ness of VR really well, it reminded me of 3D movies where things fly at your face specifically to take advantage of the wow factor of the technology. I loved the scale of it and how close I could get to the scenes. The scale made it feel more immersive somehow, even though it was too small for me to be a part of it, it was still happening all around me and I could get closer that I have in other VR experiences I’ve tried. I was still a 3rd party observer like I was in Pearl, but the fact that I was so large and I had to turn to discover the next scene made me feel like I was more a part of it.
