Live closed captioning- the next iteration
While the witches hat was fun, I wanted to fabricate this project so it resembled something that someone would actually wear. I thought a headband would be less obtrusive than a hat, and almost like less of a “style choice” because any hat has its own vibe.
The improvements:
Larger screen with more contrast and font choices, to make it easier to read and to hold longer sentences instead of having to clear every few words
LED that lights up when speech data is detected, to indicate that conversations are being documented
Button that clears the text on screen and stops new text from being printed
Here’s an image of the final breadboard setup. In the first iteration, the wiring just followed the setup that came with the screen I had to
Kept getting this strange output. Turns out I needed to solder some of the inputs closed. The adafruit sheet said I could do that in an alternative way but the alternative way didn't work for me. The trouble then was figuring out how to clear the screen.

First prototype, cut from cardboard with exacto knife to determine size.
Second prototype, laser cut to refine measurements.
The inside of the casing. I used a a GoPro-style head mount. I cut out a slot to fit the GoPro support through the back of my casing, and some slats to sew the strap on for extra support. The wires feed through the back and are sewed along the strap so they are hidden.

FInal project, wearable and working!
