Synthetic Architecture- Week 1

Reality Threshold

This week we are thinking about transitioning between experiences in a virtual space. If you had two distinct spaces, each able to exist on their own, how do you conceptualize the bridge between the two?

—The merging of the minds of lovers—

My idea is to use two consciousnesses as the distinct spaces, and create a transition between the two that deepens as connection and understanding grow.

I thought about the shape human connection can take. If the minds of two people were spaces, what would they look like? And when those minds mingle together, how do they connect?

The twist at top reminded me of DNA. I thought of the process of love as looking like a tangling of thoughts, while still allowing each piece to keep their individual identity instead of blending together. Each piece has some flecks of color from the other inside, to show the pieces they share or the influence the other has on them as an individual.

The representation using the yin yang is meant to show the minds of lovers becoming twisted together while maintaining their own identity. They have a piece of the other inside of them.

The swirl is more of a gradated take, the two sides morph together and blend in the middle. I have to think more about whether I want the two realms to come together in a way that keeps them as completely distinct, but entangled, or if I want them to blend together in a gradient of color.
