Pumpkin Carving
My original designs, hand-carved onto pumpkins just ‘cuz. Pumpkin carving is a practice of letting go of perfection. The art has to be finished before the canvas rots, leaving no room for revision. Photographing dark, round objects is tricky: photos are edited composites.
I carved this pumpkin in response to the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh in October of 2018. I wanted to show that violence against Jews is not going to make me hide my identity, and hatred will only strengthen my relationship with my Jewish community.
Initial sketch produced after lengthy discussion with engineer and surfer friend about the physics of water coming off the board.
