Video Sculpture
Project 2
I decided to let my snail sculpture speak for itself instead of involving projection mapping. Instead, I decided to focus on this “messy bedroom” as a physical manifestation of the mind that I had been thinking about for thesis.
Inspired by pictures of my room throughout my life- evidence of an invisible disability while otherwise I try so hard to appear together and on top of things.
Initial sketch was a bit more complicated than final design. This relied more on fabrication for the design and less on the projection.
Created the bedroom base with cardboard boxes, folding and gluing. I was originally going to make another iteration of this project, but the next iteration went in a different direction so I didn’t make a cleaner, more precisely cut version of this.
Attached a clear, frosted sheet of acrylic, and back projected for the wall of the bedroom. The wall video was images of my bedroom from the past 10 years with drawings of “stuff on my floor” falling in front. Originally planned on having actual tiny objects on the floor but decided it wouldn’t work for projection mapping.
Covered with discarded vinyl scraps from the vinyl cutter to create a smooth, matte surface
The finished base with acrylic back and bed also made from vinyl and cardboard
Final product
There is one projector behind, back projecting for the wall. Another projector sits in the front projecting the floor. Two videos are synced together so the mess falling past the wall accumulates on the ground.
