Video Sculptures | Week 7

Projection Mapping

I’m working on projection mapping onto my paper mache snail sculpture

I started by tracing a picture of the sculpture and overlaying it on the sculpture itself to see how it might line up. You can see the procreate file to the left, and how it looked projected onto the sculpture. Didn’t line up perfectly, but with some adjustment of the placement of the projector I got it to match pretty well.

Then I created a clearer and more accurate map, and some experimentation for how drawing outside the lines would cover out of perspective spots, like the underneath. The purple dots are so I can keep the drawing in frame. Because I was projecting live from procreate on my iPad, zooming or rotating the sketch would also completely change the frame projected. This was very annoying but this setup served my needs for now. Next would be making a more stable setup using Touch Designer.

Drawing on the sculpture live, using procreate. I’m really excited to move forward with this because it brings my sculpture to life.
